Defence crucial as Bombers flop

-

BURLEIGH Bombers QFA coach Greg Mitchell says the team will prioritise defence moving forward after a final quarter meltdown cost them a win in their season opener.

The Bombers led for the first three terms of their Round 1 contest against Mayne on Saturday but conceded four goals in the fourth with no response to lose 10.17 (77) to 10.5 (65) in windy conditions in Brisbane.

“It was a little bit disappointing and probably one that got away from us,” Mitchell said.

“Our ball use got sloppy in the last quarter and it cost us. We still have a bit of work to do on our defence and will practice that. We just have to get better.

“It was a bit windy and they came home with the breeze. We had a big enough score on the board to hold them out but we lost our structures a bit.”

“The positive thing is it’s a good starting point and we have plenty of time to keep working forward.”

Burleigh will travel to the Sunshine Coast this weekend to play Noosa who were left reeling after their own final term capitulation against Springwood at the weekend.
