Whitelaw verdict after Tweed loss
“WHEN it rains, it pours.”
That was Tweed Heads skipper Cheyne Whitelaw’s succinct assessment of their 38-4 loss to Townsville on Saturday despite boasting seven Titans-contracted players.
The Seagulls were made to pay for a shocking display of ball control and Townsville took advantage by posting some spectacular tries.
Among them was when former Gold Coast winger Kalifa Faifai-Loa miraculously kept a Zach Dockar-Clay kick in play to gift Jordan Drew the first of Townsville’s seven tries.
“Every single player had an error in them. I think we had 16 or 17 errors, and it was a bit of a case of when it rains, it pours,” Whitelaw said.
“Once you’re in that sort of heat against such a good side like Townsville who had a few players back, they were red hot … when we were down, they just stepped on our throats.”
With their task in Round 6 getting no easier – away against Wynnum Manly on Saturday night – Whitelaw said the first step is to make progress.
“At the moment it’s not about win-loss,” the lock said.
