Police: Drug rape and $100k bribe

A GOLD Coast property professional allegedly drugged a co-worker and his girlfriend and dumped his sleeping colleague in a park before raping the woman in his home.

The man is also accused of offering to pay the woman $100,000 to keep quiet.

Police will allege the man told his colleague: “Maybe I drink a lot and have sex with your girlfriend. I’m willing to work this out without telling the police.”

The 46-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been in custody since March 25. His lawyer, Campbell MacCallum, of Moloney MacCallum Abdelshahied Lawyers, is expected to make a bail application tomorrow when the matter returns to the Southport Magistrates Court.

The man has been charged with two counts each of rape and administering a drug to commit rape.

The man and the couple went to man’s place after having dinner together in Surfers Paradise on January 20.

Police will allege the man put the tranquiliser drug rohypnol in the pair’s wine.

When the woman began to feel tired, he encouraged her to lie down before convincing her boyfriend to go for a drive, it is alleged. The man’s flatmate said he saw the man propping up his co-worker as they left.

The man allegedly dumped the co-worker, who had fallen asleep, in a park and returned home to twice rape the woman, who was still asleep in his bed.

It is alleged the woman, a virgin, was unable to fight back due to her drugged state.

A good Samaritan found the man’s co-worker in the park and took him to police where officers noted he appeared drunk but returned a blood-alcohol content of zero.

Police claim the co-worker was so disorientated he was unable to tell police his name or address. Another stranger found his mobile phone and handed it to police who then helped the co-worker return to his home. He was able to return to his girlfriend at the man’s home.

The accused allegedly told the pair he did not remember anything about the night and had slept in his car. The pair returned to their home and slept. When they woke up the woman began to remember what had allegedly happened.

Police allege the co-worker confronted the man and he offered to pay the woman $100,000 within three months if she did not go to police. The pair went to police the next day.

A forensic sample was taken from the woman and police are testing blood found on bedding at the man’s home.
