Roos cut off by progress

-

ABOUT 100 kangaroos in Melbourne’s northeast are trapped away from their habitat and have no access to water due to rapid development, an ecologist says.

The kangaroos, from three mobs at Mernda and Doreen, have been blocked from accessing their habitat at Plenty Gorge Park, due to the construction of the new Mernda rail and two new schools.

“The construction in the area has left the kangaroos trapped, with no access to the gorge and no water unless it rains,” ecologist Shai Ager said yesterday, calling on the State Government to relocate the animals before they die.
