Helm Bar in Surfers Paradise has rebadged as Jamaican Commonweal­th Manor for the duration of the Games. The Jamaican Olympic Associatio­n has flown in renowned chef Karl Thomas to introduce Australian­s to the culinary delights of Caribbean food. The bar is serving Jamaican cocktails to sip while soaking up the water views.

Balter’s Currumbin headquarte­rs has extended its hours for the Commonweal­th Games. The relaxed, bricklined taproom is open to the public Monday to Thursday from 12-7pm, Friday 12-9pm, Saturday 1-8pm and Sunday 127pm, with Zicatela Mexican to munch on and a live music line-up. It’s the best place to sample their core range of beers – a pale ale , draught, pilsner and a brown ale.
