DINO SCORE: MUSEUM’S GIANT FIND

- EMILY SELLECK

EROMANGA Natural History Museum, about 1000km west of the Gold Coast, is already home to Cooper, Australia’s largest dinosaur.

But its staff have their eyes on an even bigger prize.

Robyn Mackenzie, who has been digging up the prehistoric creatures in South West Queensland for 20 years, said her team was working on excavating a dinosaur unlike any other seen in Australia.

“We’re working on the same site as Cooper but we’re getting indications we’re dealing with an individual who may be even bigger,” she said.

“It’s going to take time to excavate it but it’s a really exciting time ... his nickname is Monty, watch this space.”

Ms Mackenzie said Cooper, a 30-metre long ‘titanasour’, was a “brand new genesis species”.

“A paper is currently being written about them at the moment; hopefully by the end of this year we’ll have a brand new dinosaur name (for Monty),” she said.
