Gaz is out for three ... and that’s for starters
GEELONG midfielder Gary Ablett will miss at least three weeks of football after scans revealed he suffered a strain in his right hamstring.
The former Gold Coast star will be unavailable for the St Kilda clash this weekend, as well as matches against Port Adelaide and Sydney.
His availability after that stretch remains an unknown, with the Cats refusing to put a time frame on Ablett’s return.
Ablett said yesterday he was disappointed with the diagnosis but would be doing everything in his power to be back as early as possible.
“I think for me now it’s just a matter of coming up with a plan with the physios and the doc and working out what that looks like,” said Ablett, who was injured in the Cats’ clash with the West Coast Eagles in Perth on Sunday.
“I’ll be doing everything I can to get out on the field as quickly as possible.”
“They haven’t really said (what the grading is). With an MRI they can see some swelling in there but they’re never 100 per cent accurate.”
It is the second hamstring complaint Ablett has had in the past two months
He dismissed suggestions the six-day break or flight to Perth contributed to the strain
“I make sure that I always prepare well and I did everything as usual and made sure my body was feeling really great going into the game and I actually felt really good going into the last quarter, so it was a bit unexpected.”
