Coaches cast a wide net for rep side

- CONNOR O’BRIEN @obrien_GCB

THE Cyclones have unveiled their initial list for Gold Coast’s representative rugby swing.

Co-coached by Kris Burton and Tonga Lea’aetoa, 35 names currently feature in the training squad but another five may yet be added.

“There’s a few guys on the list who didn’t play the first few games (of the Gold Coast Dis- trict season) because they were injured but they played last year, so we are giving those guys a chance again,” Burton said.

“There are a lot of new names on there as well.

“All spots are up for grabs and if you’re not in this list it does not mean you are out of the running.”

The Cyclones will name a 23-man side to play Far North Coast of NSW on April 22 at Palm Beach Currumbin but an extended squad will continue to battle it out for spots in the South Queensland Championships side to head to Dalby for the May 19-20 weekend.

The group will train today at Surfers Paradise.

The workout will be followed by sessions at Colleges on Sunday, Helensvale next Wednesday and a final run at PBC on the Friday night before game day.
