COPS: ALLEGED GUNMAN WAS WATCHING MOVIE

- LEA EMERY

A MAN accused of shooting a former friend refused to talk to police after the incident because he had gone to the movies.

Tyson James Scott Boulden, 22, appeared briefly in Southport Magistrates Court yesterday facing charges of grievous bodily harm and possession of an illegal firearm.

Boulden did not apply for bail.

It is alleged Boulden shot his former friend, Matt Pascoe, after an argument about midday Monday.

Mr Pascoe told police he was on his skateboard in Mortensen Rd, Nerang, when he saw Boulden pull up beside him in a grey car. It is alleged Boulden pulled a “cut down” .22 rifle or single-barrel shotgun from the cabin of the car and pointed it at Mr Pascoe’s head.

Boulden is then alleged to have lowered the weapon and shot Mr Pascoe once in a lower leg before driving off.

Mr Pascoe, who has been released from hospital, suffered wounds to both legs.

The force of the shot caused a compound fracture to his calf bone, the court was told.

Boulden and Mr Pascoe were childhood friends until Mr Pascoe started to remove himself from a circle of friends because he wanted to turn his life around, the court was told.

Police alleged they called Boulden on a mobile phone about two hours after the shooting on Monday to arrange to speak to him.

The court was told Boulden refused to tell police where he was, other than to say he was at a cinema and would be at the Nerang police station at 3.30pm that day.

But Boulden did not turn up at the police station until 11am Tuesday, police said.

He surrendered himself to Southport police with his lawyer Campbell MacCallum, of Moloney MacCallum Abdelshahied Lawyers.

The matter will return to court on May 11 when Boulden is expected to apply for bail.
