No jail for Bali drugs
AUSTRALIAN accountant Isaac Roberts has avoided a jail term for taking drugs into Bali, after judges accepted that the methamphetamine, ecstasy and Xanax were for his own personal use.
The former political candidate, 36, was last night instead sentenced to one year and three months of drug rehabilitation, meaning he will not set foot inside Kerobokan jail.
After the verdict a relieved Roberts, from Toowoomba, said: “This is a good result, I don’t think I will appeal. I need rehabilitation, I am very sick.”
The presiding judge said while Roberts’ actions were contradictory with the Government’s drug eradication program he admitted guilt and was a drug user not a dealer.
