Ticking off the goals

THEY come from the Royal Ladies of the Ghana Revenue Authority and the Police Ladies club, the Extinguishers and the Reformers.

On a baking day on the Gold Coast, Ghana’s women’s hockey team scored their first goal at the Commonwealth Games after conceding 25 in almost four hours of play across the tournament. When Police Ladies stalwart Cecilia Amoako fired in from the D in the third quarter of the pool match against Canada yesterday it sparked jubilation and marked a triumph of sorts for one of the minnows of world hockey.
