THE BEST MOPS & MOUSTACHES

-

THE COMMONWEALTH GAMES ARE A CELEBRATION OF EVERYTHING ABOUT SPORT ... AND WE MEAN EVERYTHING. THE BULLETIN TAKES A LOOK AT THE HAIRSTYLES THAT HAVE MADE OUR GAMES MO-MENTUS

THE FLAME

ANTIGUA and Barbuda’s Jess St John would have loved to live up to her colourenhanced image and “caught fire” during the women’s shot put competition.

THE 2003 BECKHAM

FOOTBALL legend David Beckham struggled to pull off the cornrows back in the day but Aussie heptathlete Alysha Burnett figured she’d have a crack.

THE MARGE

WE must be careful with our analysis of Seonaid McIntosh’s hair colour choice given the Scot’s expertise with a rifle but there are obvious comparisons to a lady from Springfield.

THE WALL

HENRY Frayne took silver in the long jump but his hair’s impressive ability to defy gravity at times claimed gold in our hearts. However, Luke Perry, of 90210 fame, is demanding his ‘do back.

THE JACK SPARROW

TRINIDAD and Tobago’s Michelle-Lee Ahye claimed gold in the women’s 100m sprint, a feat made even more impressive given she had to lug 5kg of dreads over the line too.

THE NED KELLY

WITH a beard that will echo through the ages, pistol shooter Daniel Repacholi won a place in our hearts as he stormed to gold. While Repacholi says he’s retired, there is no word yet over the future of his chin curtain.

THE GRACE JONES

UGANDA’S Winnie Nanyondo clearly channelled the singing icon when she chose her look to compete in the women’s 800m event at Carrara.

THE CHROME DOME

FOR all the celebrations around the Games’ ability to attract a full gamut of styles, let’s not forget those like South Africa’s Ndodomzi Ntutu. The T12 100m athlete prefers the 2012 Darren Lockyer over the 2018 model.

THE TOWER

NIGERIA’S Oluwatobiloba Amusan impressed Isaac Newton himself, with the scientific great lauding her ability to both run 100m hurdles at great velocity, while mainly a mighty ‘do with great ferocity.

THE ARMADILLO

AUSTRALIAN weightlifter Kaitlyn Fassina won silver in the women’s 90kg, summoning follicular support from the leathery armourshelled creatures that are native to the Americas.

THE ROLLED GOLD MULLET

AUSSIE cyclist Alex Porter decided if he was going to stand on the podium he would do it in style. “I actually decided it with my brother a few months ago,” said the mulleted marvel, who won gold on the track. “What better way to get in the Australian spirit than grow a mullet?”
