SHOOTER SAYS HE GREW BEARD ‘JUST TO ANNOY WIFE’

- LEXIE CARTWRIGHT

HE’S a gold medal man but it seems Daniel Repacholi’s beard is worth more than his big win.

The 35-year-old, who was victorious in the 50m pistol shoot in his final ever international event, has put a lucrative price on his thick, long, orange beard, valuing it at $10,000.

The father-of-two, who was adored by fans – including police officers – at The Star after his win on Wednesday, has donned the beard for four years.

But he made a sensational claim he would shave it all off for charity.

“The beard to start with I did it just to annoy my wife when she was pregnant with our daughter, the first one, and I’ve just kept it going from there,” he said.

“I trim it occasionally but not that often.

“I haven’t had it off in four years.

“I’ll take it off for a charity, if we raise enough money.

“Around about 10 grand and it’ll come off.”

Repacholi, from Cessnock, has been to three Olympic Games and four Commonwealth Games, winning three gold medals.

His first Games was in Melbourne in 2006. The Gold Coast Games was his last hoorah before retiring.
