Medal bid set in stone
AUSTRALIA is assured a silver medal at least in the para women’s TT6-10 singles table tennis after two roommates booked a semi-final fixture against each other.
Melissa Tapper and athletes’ village roommate Andrea McDonnell will face off this morning, while England’s Felicity Pickard and Nigerian Faith Obazuaye also play off for a spot in tomorrow’s final.
The four women were the top players from a preliminary pool of eight. Tapper, ranked No.1 in the Commonwealth for the para singles event, won bronze in the able-bodied team event at Glasgow in2014.
During the preliminaries, Tapper defeated Pickard 3-0.
