Storm havoc sweeps US

FLIGHTS were grounded yesterday in Minneapolis and South Dakota and hundreds of vehicle crashes were reported across the Midwest as a deadly storm system swept across the central US.

More than 33cm of snow buried the Minneapolis area, at times falling at a rate of up to 3cm an hour.

The storm system moved in Friday, stretching from the Gulf Coast to the Great Lakes, bringing with it snow, tornadoes, rain and hail.

At least three deaths have been attributed to the weather system.
