Roos fight hard against Kenmore

-

A BRAVE but depleted Robina QFA division two side have lost to Kenmore by 34 points.

Despite having 10 senior players unavailable, including captain David Manning, the Roos made a contest and were 15 points up in the first quarter thanks to brothers Mark and Brad Vigus who kicked three goals between them in seven minutes.

However, it was to be the only time Robina would lead the match at Western Districts Oval.

The Bears replied with four majors to be up 36-32 at quartertime, then extended their lead to 16 points at half- time.

The Roos pegged back the Bears’ lead to just 13 at threequarter-time but could manage only one goal in the final quarter. Three unanswered goals to the Bears in the final stages of match sealed the result 14.17 (101) to 10.7 (67).

Centre half-forward Shane Cockerell, half-back flanker Ben Rodwell and winger Jamie Morrison were the Roos’ best.

The Vigus brothers finished with two goals each, as did Michael Eastwood and Stuart Ryan. The reserves team had a day to forget, going down 14.16 (100) to 4.2 (26). Robina host Coomera in Round 3 next week.
