THE Gold Coast Suns will go into their Round 3 NEAFL game against reigning premiers Brisbane unbeaten on the back of 21-point win over Greater Western Sydney.

The Suns beat GWS 14.9 (93) to 11.6 (72) at Harrup Park, Mackay, on Saturday.

It ensures two Gold Coast teams remain atop the ladder, with the Southport Sharks currently leading the competition ahead of the Suns.

Jacob Heron kicked three goals against GWS while Will Brodie, Charlie Ballard and Connor Nutting all recorded doubles.

A 4.1 opening term gave Gold Coast a 16-point lead at the end of the first quarter and they went on to extend the gap at each break.

The Suns will play Brisbane at South Pine Sports Complex this Sunday while Southport will return from a bye to play Aspley at Fankhauser Reserve.

It will be Southport’s first home game of the season and will come against an Aspley team boasting former recruitment target Andrew Swallow.
