What a start to the swimming. Kurt Fearnley. Since the Gold Coast first decided to bid for the Games, Fearnley has put his heart and soul into the event and few highlights rivalled his marathon win. Games saved the best for the last with scarcely believable scenes in the marathon as hometown hero Michael Shelley won a deserved gold. Bronte and Cate Campbell combined with Emma McKeon and Shayna Jack to produce a world record 4x100m women’s freestyle relay. With a finally tally of 80 gold, 59 silver and 59 bronze, the entire Australian Games team can take a bow.
