We got our message across, say protesters

- CHRIS MCMAHON

INDIGENOUS activists said they were proud of of the part they played in protests during the Games as they began to leave ‘Camp Freedom’ at Doug Jennings Park yesterday.

Dale Ruska said he was happy with the actions of the past fortnight, believing their message had been spread locally and internationally.

“Without a doubt we have (got our message across), it’s a message that can’t be ignored,” he said. “What we have done here is symbolic of our people’s needs and desires for justice.

“It’s extremely important (to have the next generation at the camp), this is going to have to carry on for a few generations more yet.

Albert Hartnett said the movement was about making Australia a better place for everyone. “We need to look at the consciousness of us all as human beings,” he said.

“I’m feeling pretty content that we’ve sent a good message out to not only the national community, but to the international community about our continuing fight.”
