Man told partner: I’ll kill you now

- LEA EMERY

A GOLD COAST man who allegedly held his partner down by the throat and threatened to kill her has been granted bail.

The 33-year-old man, who legally cannot be named, has not entered a plea in the Southport Magistrates Court to one count each of deprivation of liberty, strangulation and breaching a domestic violence order.

Police allege the man went to his partner’s home on Friday and he allegedly told her to “shut up or you are going to die”. He then allegedly grabbed her by the throat and dragged her into the wall before saying: “I am going to kill you now”.

The woman managed to escape and call police for help. A day earlier the pair had argued and the man allegedly blocked the woman from leaving.

Defence lawyer Demi Quadrio, of Gatenbys Lawyers, said the man was in contact with the woman in order to make arrangements to see his two children.

“He has concerns that should he be remanded in custody he is going to lose the rights to his children,” she said.

Magistrate Mark Howden granted the man bail on the condition he not contact his partner, and that he report to police each week.
