Smith’s on Reds radar

-

EVERGREEN Wallabies great George Smith is set to be recalled to the Queensland Reds on Saturday night for their shot at toppling a Kiwi side at Suncorp Stadium for the first time in two years.

The 37-year-old flanker made a sharp 40-minute comeback for the Brothers club on Saturday when playing his first rugby since disc replacement surgery in his back four months ago.

His Super Rugby return may be off the bench against the Chiefs but injecting classy touches would add polish to the stuttering Reds attack.

Recalling Duncan Paia’aua at inside centre and a lift in impact from Wallabies forward Lukhan Tui, who announced a new two-year deal, will also add edge to the Reds attack.

Tui has played two hours of rugby in seven rounds since mid-February and he is certain to improve from his hot-andcold 80-minute run in the 37-16 loss to the NSW Waratahs on Saturday night.

The re-signing of Tui, 21, and Angus Blyth, 20, is a strong investment in the Reds’ lock stocks for the future.
