Absence of top talent leaves ticketholders feeling dudded

- CAMPBELL GELLIE

CLOSING Ceremony spectators are furious after spending hundreds of dollars on tickets for a show which lacked major Australian stars.

The tickets went for no less than $250, creating expectations that well-known celebrities would be centre stage. “Organisers could have come up with something a bit more spectacular,” Mike Ford said.

Mr Ford, from Surfers Paradise, said the organisers missed a big opportunity with the opening ceremony too.

“When I saw the big floating Migaloo come out, I thought Kylie would come out and sing her new big hit,” he said. “Unfortunately ... we didn’t have any of our big stars like that.”

Clayton Manning said he had a poor view of the show, despite spending hundreds. “We paid a lot of money for our tickets and unfortunately we were on the wrong side,” he said.

“Everything was directed in the other direction so we did not get to see a lot of what was happening unless we were watching it on the screen.”

GOLDOC said the ticket prices were in line with those at other major international events.
