VOLUNTEERS HONOURED
THE Gold Coast Bulletin, 102.9 Hot Tomato, Village Roadshow Theme Parks and the Gold Coast Suns are to pay the ultimate tribute to the Commonwealth Games volunteers.
The almost 15,000 who worked tirelessly to make the Games great are honoured in a special 32-page commemorative magazine in the Bulletin on Friday, April 27.
It will include the names of all 14,524 volunteers.
The special magazine will boast an indepth look into the experiences of our 25 Games Shapers competition winners — a behind-the-scenes look into their time at the Games, while telling the story of why they took on the role.
Our competition winners will get a special prize of two nights stay at Sea World Resort, thanks to Village Roadshow Theme Parks.
In addition, there will be a special thank you to volunteers at the Gold Coast Suns’ first home game at Metricon Stadium in June.
Bulletin editor Ben English said: “We have all marvelled at the extraordinary prowess and feats of the athletes. But for me, the true local heroes of these Games are our extraordinary volunteers.
“They have, more than anybody, embodied what is great about the Gold Coast and shown the world the size of our hearts.
“It is wonderful to be able to honour their efforts with this commemorative magazine and to partner with three great supporters of our city.’’
Volunteer Skye Bond (left) featured in the surf life saving tower during RickiLee Coulter’s opening ceremony set. She then switched to the road, chauffeuring around a wide cross-section of people.
“That’s where I really got to know people,” Ms Bond said. “You could never pay for this experience.”
The Bulletin magazine edition will be available free-of-charge to people with a GOLDOC Accreditation pass. Accreditation passes must be shown for redemption, and there is a limit of one per person while stocks last.
The offer is only at newsagents stocking the Gold Coast Bulletin.
