Police trying to lure Mauritian back to Coast
POLICE are in discussions with the Mauritian Commonwealth Games official accused of sexual assault to return to the Gold Coast to face court.
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, did not appear in Southport Magistrates Court yesterday to face the charges. Police allege the 52-year-old man touched a 26-year-old Mauritian athlete during a photoshoot on March 29 in Southport.
Defence lawyer Bill Potts, of Potts Lawyers, told the court the man had returned to his home country. He said police were talking to the man about returning to face the charges.
Magistrate Andrew Sinclair adjourned the matter to May 8 for a police brief to be prepared.
