Fensom poised for comeback in ISC game

-

COWBOYS workhorse Shaun Fensom is expected to make his long-awaited comeback from a broken leg this week, with the forward ready to put his grand final heartbreak behind him.

North Queensland coach Paul Green confirmed yesterday that the former Raider was on track to return with the Townsville Blackhawks in the Intrust Super Cup on Sunday, six months after he suffered a horrific leg break in the Cowboys’ grand final loss to the Storm.

It’s been a long time coming for Fensom, who had originally been hopeful of a Round 1 return.

The Cowboys have lost their past five games straight and while Green decided not to wield the axe this week, he expects Fensom to push for a spot in the NRL side.

“It’s no fun for anyone being injured and when you’ve had an injury as serious as what he did, it’s a huge boost for him to get back on the paddock,” Green said.

“He’s been in that training rehab group for quite a while.

“It’s great to have him back with the boys.”

Green said all Fensom had to do was get through the week and he would be given the final clearance to play against the competition-leading Devils in Townsville on Sunday.
