The Gold Coast Bulletin

Free lunch for some, not others

-

THE thank you party for Gold Coast Commonwealth Games volunteers still isn’t pleasing everyone despite food and drink being laid on.

Some of the volunteers, known as Games Shapers, originally complained about being asked to bring or pay for their own refreshments and food at the event on Saturday.

But Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, as revealed in yesterday’s Bulletin, heard about the plight and promised State Government would cough up so volunteers didn’t have too.

Now a Games volunteer who was among 3000 in the opening and closing ceremonies said they were not among the 15,000 ‘Games Shapers’ invited to the thank you.

“This thank you party is actually only for the Games Shapers. The other volunteers, like myself, have not been invited,” one told the Bulletin.

“The entire cast for the ceremony who were all volunteers have not been invited, even though we committed to more than 60-plus hours of training.”

Premier Palaszczuk will join Games organising committee chairman Peter Beattie and Deputy Mayor Donna Gates at the thank you party.
