GETTING to and from social and medical appointments is now easy for Gold Coasters thanks to Star Community Services, says general manager Patsy Wilshire.

“The non-profit is now operating across the Gold Coast and offers government subsidised door-to-door transport services,” she said.

“It’s available to those 65 years and over, or 50 years and over for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

“We can transport them to and from medical appointments or social events such as birthdays, weddings or visits to family and friends.

“Our team can also take them shopping, to the bank, post office, gym, pool, hairdresser, library, museum, park or any other personal appointment.”

Mrs Wilshire said during the festive season, Star Community Services supported seniors to make the most of their summer by helping them visit friends and family or bag a bargain at the shops.

“To get started, call to check your eligibility, register with Star Community Services and then you can book,” Mrs Wilshire said.

Coomera resident Ann Smith (pictured with volunteer driver Andrea Thompson and Mrs Wilshire) said she was no longer reliant on her family to take her to regular medical visits because Star Community Services picked her up from her door and drove her to appointments and then home again.

“It’s easy and I enjoy the company of my lovely volunteer driver,” she said.

Wheelchair accessible vehicles are available.
