PROPERTY WORTH $13M SELLS AT AUCTION

- ALEISHA DAWSON

MORE than $13 million worth of Gold Coast property changed hands at Ray White’s Auction Spectacular at Main Beach yesterday.

A crowd of about 300 people packed into a room at the Shereton Grand Mirage for the event, which was the culmination of a marketing campaign by Ray White to leverage off the Commonwealth Games.

Among the sales was a block of land in Southport that fetched $1.46 million and a five-bedroom Sovereign Islands home that sold ahead of its auction slot to a Sydney buyer for $3.93 million.

There were 60 registrations and 200 bids for 51 properties ranging from prestige houses to entry-level units.

After searching for more than two years Gold Coast couple Lisa and Mick Rafferty bought a four-bedroom home at 11a Joanne Court, Currumbin Valley, for $900,000 under the hammer.

“We have been looking for about two-and-a-half years in this area and we are so happy with this place, and it’s got a pool,” Mr Rafferty said.

“We are upsizing and need more space for our family.”

Ray White Queensland CEO Tony Warland said more than 25 per cent of the properties cleared on the day, with the rest in negotiation with buyers and likely to sell in coming days.

“We are delighted not only by the amount of sales today and prior, but with the amount of property still being negotiated,” Mr Warland said.

“Buyers have more faith in a property’s value when other people are looking to buy it.”
