Axe looms at United

-

BROADBEACH United coach Lee Vernon could wield the selection axe for Sunday’s Gold Coast Premier League grand final rematch, after labelling his side’s second half against Mudgeeraba “deplorable”.

The Dolphins thrashed Mudgeeraba 3-0 at Sid Bigg Park on Saturday night thanks to goals from Harry McMaster (two) and Mason Campbell, but Vernon was fuming.

“We’ve got players fighting for spots and some of them may have played themselves out of a spot,” Vernon said ahead of Sunday’s home clash with Gold Coast Knights, who beat Surfers Paradise 2-1 on Friday night.

In Saturday’s other Round 1 fixtures, newcomers Coomera beat Murwillumbah 3-1 and Nerang downed Palm Beach 4-3.

Burleigh Heads yesterday beat Tweed United 3-1.
