Magic moment sparks Cats win
A MOMENT of individual brilliance in a lacklustre game from small forward Nick Burton has given the Broadbeach Cats the spark needed to open their QAFL season with a win.
With the scrappy game in the balance in windy conditions at Subaru Oval on Saturday, Burton produced a mark during time-on at the end of the third quarter that coach Brett Andrews said propelled the Cats to a 11.9 (75) to 5.8 (38) win over Morningside.
“It was still touch and go right up until then,” Andrews said. “We had the wind in our favour but we were still goalless that quarter.
“Nick put on a show and changed the game for us. He took a screamer and his ball pressure was enormous.
“He took a big mark and kicked a goal after the siren so we went into the fourth with some momentum. I could see we weren’t going to lose it after that.”
It was a successful day of footy for Broadbeach, with the club’s seniors, reserves, colts and women’s teams all winning.
