NATIONAL surf life saving championships, motor racing and sporting events combined with the Gold Coast’s many tourists attractions to provide Easter holiday-makers with non-stop entertainment.
Along the 30km of the tourist strip, visitors were enjoying themselves at a variety of day and night spots including the scenic Hinterland.
The major outdoor attraction at the Gold Coast that Easter was the National Surf Life Saving Championships which were held at Burleigh Heads. More than 3000 lifesavers with a total of $500,000 worth of gear were competing at the titles which ran for three days.
They were officially opened by Queensland Governor Sir Colin Hannah.
Good Friday was mainly devoted to a Queensland interclub competition before the national heats were held.
And a bodybuilding contest was held at the Pacific Hotel in Southport.
Called Mr Novice Gold Coast, it attracted several local entries.
In addition, guest appearances were made by former Mr South Pacific Paul Graham, Mr NSW Robert Deegan and Mr Queensland, Bob Bruce.
Motor racing, including drag races were held under floodlight at the Surfers Paradise International Raceway.
Meanwhile, a mystery company bought two Coolangatta guesthouses for a total price exceeding $1 million.
The two properties were Greenmount Guest House on Greenmount Hill and Sunset Strip on Boundary St. No details on the buyers or prices were disclosed but the Greenmount sale price was understood to be a record for the suburb.
