Sedanzar sights set on Hawkesbury mission

- MATT JONES

TOP mare Sedanzar is primed for a big run at Hawkesbury on Saturday as she makes her return to racing after a Magic Millions mission.

Co-trainer Adrian Bott said the mare had come back in great order and he was confident ahead of the Group 3 Godolphin Crown (1300m).

The four-year-old Sebring mare won her first three starts impressively last preparation and has had two good trials to get her ready for Saturday’s feature meeting at Hawkesbury.

Bott said he and co-trainer Gai Waterhouse couldn’t wait to see her perform firstup in what looks like a deep race on paper with the likes of Pecans, White Moss and Invincibella leading the market with Sedanzar.

“She can well and truly do something first-up. She’s definitely forward enough for it,” Bott said. “I’m really excited to see her return after she came back in great order last preparation so hopefully she can do the same this time around.”

She won her only start at Hawkesbury in 2016 and was second in her final two runs last preparation behind Pecans in the Group 3 Belle of the Turf Stakes at Gosford and Tumultuous in the Magic Millions Trophy on the Gold Coast in January.

“Judging by her trials she’s looked to have come back exactly where she left off,” Bott said.

“We’ve tried to get a bit of speed back in her legs after we stretched her out to 2000m last preparation and she’s responded very well.

“She’s usually got such a devastating turn of foot and doesn’t have that early speed to go with them, so she’ll be finding her feet in a midfield position before doing her best work late.”
