Breakneck speeds to avoid RBT

-

POLICE are hunting a couple who exceeded speeds of 120km/h and drove on the wrong side of the road to escape a random breath test site at Main Beach.

It was about 11.15am yesterday when a yellow car approaching the RBT on the Gold Coast Hwy veered away and sped off in the opposite direction, southbound.

A police spokeswoman said the vehicle, which reached speeds in excess of 120km/h, almost hit an officer as it sped away from the RBT.

Patrols of the area were conducted and the vehicle was sighted a short time later at the intersection of the Gold Coast Hwy and Paradise Island Rd.

Police indicated for the driver to pull over, but the driver has again evaded police by accelerating through a red light, narrowly missing a patrol car, before driving south along the Gold Coast Hwy at an approximate speed of 100km/h.

A short time later, the same officers observed the stolen vehicle driving back towards them on the wrong side of the highway.

The vehicle has again narrowly missed the police vehicle and continued travelling north along the Gold Coast Hwy at speed.

A short time later the car, which was reported stolen from Pottsville in northern NSW, was found dumped in a car park at Pacific Fair.

Police believe the duo boarded a bus at the centre, bound for the Nerang area.

No arrests have been made and no one was hurt during the incident.
