No surprise as William confirmed as brother Harry’s best man

- ANNABEL HENNESSY

PRINCE Harry has officially asked his older brother Prince William to be best man at his upcoming wedding to US actor Meghan Markle.

In a statement released by Kensington Palace on Thursday morning 10.30am UK time, it was revealed Prince Harry had officially asked William to be his best man at his May 19 wedding.

“The Duke of Cambridge is honoured to have been asked, and is very much looking forward to supporting his brother at St George’s Chapel, Windsor on May 19th,” the statement said.

“Prince Harry served as best man to The Duke of Cambridge at his wedding to Miss Catherine Middleton in 2011.”

Harry and William are known for being extremely close and the appointment comes as no surprise.

William, who became a father for the third time this week, was photographed with Harry and Meghan at an Anzac Day service at Westminster Abbey on Wednesday.

The Duke was seen kissing Ms Markle’s cheek and giving her a friendly pat on the back.

During their engagement interview Harry spoke about how eager his brother and sister-in-law had been to meet Ms Markle when they first started dating.

“William was longing to meet her and so was Catherine, so you know being our neighbours we managed to get that in a couple of – well quite a few times now,” he said.

During the interview Ms Markle also said Catherine had been “wonderful” and William was “amazing”.

On the other hand both of Ms Markle’s estranged halfsiblings, Samantha Grant and Thomas Markle Jr, have publicly complained about being snubbed for wedding invites.
