Ratepayers of the southern Gold Coast fed up with being ignored

- PETER MANTHEY

THE people of the southern Gold Coast have had enough.

There are still no extra lanes on the M1, just lots of talk and a Liberal Government looking for accolades after decades of Gold Coast neglect. Not to mention a State Government who think Queensland stops at Burleigh.

No wonder the governmentemployed bus driver went to Brisbane by mistake instead of Coolangatta during the Games. Who can blame him?

There is no passenger rail and no light rail – not even any definite talk of either. We are the forgotten ratepayers. Is it that we don’t complain enough – should we have to?

We have an airport with people who don’t want to pay for parking who park for free, congesting streets and creating lifethreatening situations for residents trying to access their driveways.

Who cares – not the council. After months they can’t even answer a letter. The local member can’t get them to, so what hope has a lowly ratepayer.

So to the current problem: residents of Currumbin, Tugun, Bilinga and Kirra, have you noticed all day, every day a nice red helicopter doing low-level circuits of our houses?

I’m sure you have. I’m not talking about the usual helicopter flights that we know we have to accept.

I understand they may have gotten special dispensation to do these flights below the required 1000 feet.

Why you might ask? This helicopter is doing short flights for tourists.

So please people of our beautiful suburbs, don’t put up with it. It’s the old story, these problems only get worse when good people do nothing.
