Christmas’ Arcade sale

- QUENTIN TOD

FORMER real estate agency principal Max Christmas is selling two titles in the Centre Arcade in Surfers Paradise that he has owned for nearly 40 years.

The properties are on the first floor of the two-level arcade, which stretches between Orchid Ave and Surfers Paradise Blvd.

Mr Christmas bought them for $38,000 and $45,000 in 1980, transferring them, along with two other Centre Arcade titles, to Max Christmas (Marketing) in a $1.3 million 1990 transaction.

The titles being sold are at the Orchid Ave end of the arcade and have been leased to the Ray White Surfers Paradise group.

They are side-by-side, have floor areas of 35 and 38 sq m, and are being sold vacant. They are being offered, either individually or in one line, by private treaty, and marketed by Scott Wells and Brad Merkur, of Ray White Commercial.

Mr Wells said the properties would be attractive to self-managed funds.

“They also might suit people looking to own their own office or retail space in the heart of Surfers Paradise without the high price tag of being on the Orchid Ave street-front.”

Mr Christmas last year auctioned the top floor of The Promenade building in Orchid Ave, space which he and wife Liz retained after he retired from his agency in 2005. It did not sell and was leased to a language school for three years. superannuation
