D’BAH TEAM ON VERGE OF RIDING INTO HISTORY

- With Andrew McKinnon

DURANBAH surfers are on the cusp of creating history.

The Tweed-based boardriding club’s women’s team are about to start their mission to win a fourth straight Surftag Australian Championships title – a feat never before achieved in 17 years of competition.

Freya Prumm will remarkably join two sets of twins – Audrey and Grace Styman-Lane, and Amiya and Brodie Doyle – in launching their title defence this afternoon at their home break.

D’Bah will be up against Sydney’s Queenscliff Boardriders and Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula Surfriders in what shapes as a closely contested first semi-final.

Among Queenscliff’s crew is recently crowned WSL QS1000 Krui Pro champion Alysse Cooper.

Audrey Styman-Lane said the women’s surftag title was getting harder to win each year. “The standard of surfing is going through the roof,” she said.

“There are some really good teams coming up to compete in the event so hopefully the waves are fun and we can get the job done.

“We are just so happy to compete in a stand-alone women’s division and compete as a team.”

Clubs represented in the men’s division at Duranbah will be Lennox-Ballina, Cabarita, Kingscliff, D’Bah, Snapper Rocks, Kirra, Burleigh Heads, North End as well as various out of town teams.
