ELLIOT LINES UP NEW GOALS AS DEBUT ARRIVES

- CONNOR O’BRIEN

THIS is the moment Brendan Elliot has long been dreaming of: Lining up for his hometown NRL club in front of family and friends at Cbus Super Stadium.

It is also the start of Elliot’s campaign to become a first grade regular.

Since debuting for the Roosters in 2014, Elliot has had a taste of NRL action each year without playing more than 12 games in a season.

The 24-year-old started his tenure at the Titans on the back foot, injuring his ankle in a pre-season trial but has bounced back to be one sleep away from making his club debut at left centre.

Elliot last week asked coach Garth Brennan where he was at in the pecking order and was duly told he needed some more game time under his belt at Intrust Super Cup level.

He responded with an excellent showing for Tweed Heads on Sunday – his third appearance for the Seagulls – and an impressed Brennan waited no longer in making his call-up a reality.

After Gold Coast’s young left edge were put to the sword by the Cowboys last weekend, Elliot is seen as a figure who will add some much needed defensive steel.

“I have always prided myself on my defence,” said the Runaway Bay junior.

“Definitely my intentions coming up here from Newcastle was to play first grade and now that I have been named in the team, I can’t wait to get out there and hopefully have a good game and stay there.”

The Round 8 match against Cronulla will kick off at 5.30pm tomorrow.
