Morris: Stop listening to the Greens

- ANDREW POTTS

PROMINENT Gold Coast businessman Terry Morris has told the State Government to “have a backbone” and approve a cableway that would further diversify the city’s tourism appeal.

Mr Morris, who was involved in the 1998 Naturelink and 2014 Skyride proposals, seized on a push by tourism and business leaders to build a cableway similar to Cairns’ Skyrail in the Gold Coast Hinterland.

“It’s not going anywhere while the Greens keep directing their preferences to the government and the only way it will happen is if the state does an expressions of interest campaign,” he said yesterday.

“They have no problem spending money on other things, why not do this and get the community involved. Unless they get some backbone you will not see anything happen.”

The most recent proposal for a cableway was a $100m, 9km attraction running from Mudgeeraba to Springbrook.

It was proposed by a syndicate led by businessmen Terry Jackman, Terry Moore and Terry Morris and Mermaid Beach MP Ray Stevens.

Mr Stevens said any route could be discussed and modified based on feedback.
