Little memory of attack

-

THE victim of an alleged assault in Surfers Paradise has told a court he does not have a good memory of the events leading to his injuries.

Keri Eru Arapeta Ben Phillips has pleaded not guilty in Southport District Court to one count of grievous bodily harm. It is alleged he punched Canadian student Kazra Khakpoor just before 3am on April 30, 2016.

Khakpoor yesterday told the court his memory of the night was not great.

“I don’t have as much memory as I thought I did,” he said.

The court heard Mr Khakpoor went to talk to a friend of Phillips who had spat beer on him earlier in the night. CCTV footage shows the discussion getting heated before Mr Khakpoor was hit, knocking him to the ground. He was left with a broken jaw.

The trial continues today.
