- BRITT RAMSEY

A MAN remains in the Gold Coast University Hospital clinging to life after a horror crash on a dark stretch of Robina Parkway on Monday night.

Around 10.37pm a 33-yearold man riding a motorised skateboard was hit by a car, suffering critical head injuries.

Gold Coast senior operations supervisor Jayney Shearman said Queensland Ambulance officers were quickly on the scene.

“We were very fortunate that an ambulance was in that very same area, so there was some lifesaving treatment that was initiated very very quickly by Queensland Ambulance Service,” she said. “At the time we arrived, he was unconscious and clearly had significant head injuries.”

The 21-year-old driver of the vehicle was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

“He was in a great deal of shock, it was a very very unfortunate incident,” acting supervisor Shearman said. “This was a terrible incident and one that is very very sad.

“Our thoughts certainly go to this patient, but it is a timely reminder about the safety of using scooters, bikes and those types of equipment.”

The police Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the incident.
