Hundreds tested in cop blitz

-

ROBINA police arrested three people and caught 15 others during a crackdown on drink driving across the suburb at the weekend.

Police tested 868 people on Sunday as part of Operation Blue Strike.

“It’s disappointing that some people are still not getting the message about not drinking and driving,” Acting Senior Sergeant Mick Sweeney said.

“Police are out and about all the time conducting RBTs, so it’s only a matter of time before you get caught if you continue to break the law.

“Alcohol-related crashes are still, unfortunately, something that police see most days and are one of the major killers of motorists and pedestrians in Queensland.”

Across the border, a man has been charged after blowing nearly three times the legal blood-alcohol limit.

The 49-year-old was seen by police getting into the driver’s seat of a car in Muirfields Place, Banora Point, at 8pm Saturday.

The driver returned a positive breath test of 0.135. He will appear in Tweed Heads Local Court next month.
