ELECTORATE PAYS TRIBUTE TO HEROES
VOLUNTEERS have been acknowledged and thanked for their outstanding contributions. The 76 local heroes were honoured at the McPherson Community Awards celebrating their tireless dedication to volunteering.
Federal Member for McPherson, Karen Andrews said she was honoured to present the awards to such a diverse group of heroes who selflessly give their time and expertise to clubs and organisations.
In the three categories for nomination, 36 awards were presented to community achievers, 32 to achievers within the surf life saving community, and eight in the Young Achiever category. Recipients ranged from members of Marine Rescue, Lions clubs, schools, RSLs, sporting clubs and community progress associations.
One volunteer, Danny Hoyland has been a member of the Coolangatta SLSC for 45 years. He was recently awarded life membership of Surf Life Saving Australia.
