WE RATE THE BEST HOLLINDALE STAKES WINNERS OF ALL TIME

-

SOME OF AUSTRALIA’S BEST HORSES HAVE WON GOLD COAST GLAMOUR RACE, THE HOLLINDALE STAKES. TODAY WE CONTINUE COUNTING DOWN OUR TOP SIX PAST WINNERS AHEAD OF THE $1 MILLION MEETING ON SATURDAY.

RACING cherishes good horses and good people. Those present at the 2014 Hollindale Stakes meeting got both when top-class mare Streama won the feature race for popular Sydney trainer Guy Walter.

Sadly, less than three weeks later the racing industry was mourning the death of Walter at the age of 59.

Walter died of a heart attack five days after Streama backed up her Hollindale Stakes success with victory in the Doomben Cup in Brisbane. It was her fourth Group 1 win.

The love and respect Walter had for Streama was evident after she won the Gold Coast race from Mr O’Ceirin and Precedence.

“She’s just about done it all,’’ Walter said. ‘’She’s had a great career.

“She’s won from 1200 metres to an Oaks over 2400 metres in top company.

‘’It’s great to get this race on her CV. She’s an absolutely top-class mare and she showed that today.

“I have a real soft spot for her and she has beaten some topclass horses.”

Streama won a Group 1 race in four successive years from 2011 to 2014, as well as five Group 2 events. She won the Hollindale Stakes and Doomben Cup at her final two starts.

The CV of which Walter was rightly proud is proof that Streama deserves a place among the greatest Hollindale Stakes winners.
