New addition to man’s tally of drugs charges

A GOLD COAST man already facing three separate sets of drugs charges has been charged with a possession rap after detectives raided a swanky Surfers Paradise hotel.

The 29-year-old Oxenford man made a brief appearance in Southport Magistrates Court yesterday charged with four counts of possessing dangerous drugs and one count each of possessing tainted property, possessing utensils or pipes.

He made no plea or application for bail after being marched out of the Hilton Surfers Paradise Hotel on Wednesday by five detectives – two wearing blue rubber gloves – at 7.30pm.

The man casually chatted with officers and finished a cigarette as he was ushered straight into a waiting unmarked police car amid Glitter Strip diners and hotel guests.

The new matter was adjourned until next week when it was indicated the accused would make a bail application.

His latest arrest came while he awaited sentencing on multiple drugs-related charges in relation to three separate busts.

The man is scheduled to be sentenced on 10 drug-related charges including trafficking and supply in Brisbane Supreme Court on June 28.

Those charges relate to a bust last July.

He is set to appear in court on July 10 for eight charges after his February 7 arrest in Broadbeach.

Further drugs charges are due to be heard in November. The man is believed to have first come to police attention in April, 2016, when caught drugdriving and driving without a licence.

He pleaded guilty and was fined $800 and disqualified from driving for seven months.

A Queensland Police Service statement said the Southport detectives seized “a quantity of dangerous drugs and utensils” in Wednesday night’s Hilton bust.
