Burleigh bids to right ship
WITH a series of “disruptions” behind them, Burleigh are striving to get their South East Queensland Women’s Division One rugby league season back on track.
The three-time defending premiers find themselves in an unusual situation of trying to avoid a third straight loss when they host Brothers Ipswich on Saturday at Pizzey Park.
The Bears backed up their 16-4 loss to West Brisbane three weeks ago with an improved effort against leaders Easts, though the Tigers took the points 20-14, before a competition-wide bye last week.
Coach Tahnee Norris said a range of factors hadn’t helped momentum, herself having been unavailable during the Commonwealth Games period due to other commitments.
The Bears were also at times without key players such as Zahara Temara courtesy of clashing commitments with the inaugural Super W rugby season. Adding pain was the fact their past five games have all been played away.
“There have been a lot of disruptions,” Norris said.
“We actually played really good footy last game.
“We played some better, consistent football. We just made a couple of mistakes at different times which (we paid for).”
Burleigh (fourth) and Ipswich (second) will kick off their Round 7 match at 5pm on Saturday.
