Scare as ‘grenades’ left in lost property

POLICE are hunting for a man who shut down Nerang Police Station yesterday morning when he delivered a Tupperware container filled with replica grenades.

The container was left on the front counter at around 8.45am, after the man told staff it contained “lost property”.

He then left the station on a bicycle, leaving police stunned to discover the contents and forced to quickly evacuate the building.

The box was immediatel­y rushed to the carpark where it was examined by the Explosives Team.

It took three hours to realise the grenades were in fact incredibly realistic fakes, according to Acting Senior Sergeant Graeme Reeves.

“It’s something that you couldn’t readily get over the Ordinance Response counter in Queensland,” said. “And that’s why would like to speak to gentleman who brought items to the station.”
