Sleeping mother saved by the bell

-

A YOUNG Sydney mother believes she and her little girl had a lucky escape after a man caught on camera lurking outside their home while they slept was scared off by a remote-access doorbell.

Jrisi Jusakos and daughter Catalina were sleeping upstairs in their Northmead townhouse when a man rang their front door bell about 2pm last Wednesday.

Creepy video from security cameras shows the man, wearing a black and red shirt, coming up to the house and peering through the window and testing the door knob.

The hi-tech doorbell includes a feature that alerts a homeowner via a mobile phone app when someone rings the bell, and allows them to answer.

So, when the man ringing the bell failed to wake Mrs Jusakos, her husband Tristan Baker then answered from his phone at work.

In the security video, the man appears to be startled when Mr Baker answers the doorbell and quickly leaves the area.

Ms Jusakos had no idea about the incident until she saw the footage, which left her feeling fearful.

“When I looked at the footage ... you can see him push the door in,” Ms Jusakos said.

“I’ve been in this suburb for 10 years and you think you’re safe in your own home but now I’m really freaked out.”

The couple reported the incident to police and handed over the security footage.

A NSW Police spokesman said officers were investigating but no charges had been laid, and they appealed for anyone with information to contact them.

Ms Jusakos said she and her husband now planned to add more security measures to their home and would turn it into “Fort Knox” to protect their family.
