At the Commonwealth Games closing ceremony if all the performers and volunteers worked for free can someone explain why we paid an obscene amount of money to an American company in order to be embarrassed on the world stage? Surely in this day and age there needs to be a degree of transparency around using taxpayer funds? Doesn’t it also come with some form of guarantee to get some of the money back given the outcome i.e. we did not get what I can only assume was promised? Fellow volunteer

I agree with the ETU’s Beau Malone. More money should go to the education budget so Mr. Malone can learn how to spell!

Put Peter Beattie in charge of sovereign borders, they will all stay away.

What kind of useless system we are having here in Queensland? Ferals moved in next door - 3 dogs barking at nights and weekends - many phone calls and letters to the GCCC, hundreds of hrs of dogs barking recorded - no result. Why have useless departments that achieve nothing?

God help us if the greens-led Labor Party win the next election - they’ll send all of us to the cleaners JJ

Just got some insider trading info, so please don’t tell anyone. Coles&Woolies will buying plastic bags for 7-8 cents each and selling them for 15cents. Good time to buy shares in both companies. Johnbrew

So judge Sinclair says there would only be two judges in Southport if people did not take methamphetamines. Maybe if they did their job properly and gave these losers free accommodation in jail they wouldn’t have the problem in the first place.

Who advised our defence minister to change the rules so that women in the Australian Defense Forces get the ADF medal after 2 years service while men have to serve for 4 years?

3 AMP directors resigned – OMG! I’m sure that they have other jobs already waiting for them, just like our politicians. Fat cats looking after fat cats this is so easy!

With the courts protecting the villains, the time is fast approaching for society to become vigilantes! BM, Southport

Shops are open on Easter Sunday because it is only a significant event for a small sector of the population. Labour

Day is significant to millions of workers and it has nothing to do with politics. Harry.

Yeah vote for Labor. Then you must support the live imports of boat people ready and waiting for Labor to get back in ...

At Harbourtown on Monday my friend and I ran to help a young Asian couple whose 2year-old boy needed paramedic attention. We didn’t know what was wrong with him but we dialled 000 and along with others tried to calm parents down and help their boy to a recovery position. Didn’t get their details but would like to know if their boy is okay?

Well stated Viv Forbes ... could not agree more, ty

Could I add “bike for sale” on one of those orange bikes lying around and not get fined?

Agree with you Diz on our litter problem. I simply cannot understand why there is no action to stop/minimise littering. Much of the Gold Coast looks like a garbage tip.

How dare Bill Shorten question the government’s effort to pay back our debt? They always ignore the fact we had plenty put aside when they took over. Wasting millions to make Labor look good, Then had to borrow billions off China. Now they act like it’s all Turnbull’s fault ... pull your head in Labor. You put us in the RED. M D.

Every time we lose a quaint little beach shack in Kirra for a high-rise or another block of units, we lose 4 beach babes, for a bunch of look at me blowins who don't surf. SS.

Titans, please, oh please, sign Coote from Cowboys on a two or three year deal and put Gordon at number six for the remainder of the year. He is not a priority at the Cowboys, but I’m sure he would go to another level under new coach. While at it, try and lure Napa from the Roosters if possible, or at least, someone with mongrel in them. A Current Affair last night – a Melbourne woman frustrated with growing crime in Melbourne, moved to the Goldie “for a quieter life”. Obviously she hasn't got a tv at home!

Corruption has a corrosive impact on society. It undermines democracy and the rule of law, as well as distorting market forces and paving the way for organised crime and terrorism.

Do people know where the indicator is on their steering wheel? It would appear many drivers do not know they even have one, as I have witnessed their lack of use on the road time and time again. Charlie

Lol, the budget’s future personal income tax changes work out being revenue neutral if you factor in interest rate rises.
