Small-scale E swell hangs in at 2ft max across the region on Thursday before fading to lower levels by Friday, tending tiny to flat by Saturday morning. The evolution of a deep ECL off the southern NSW coast leads in a strong rise in S swell Sunday/ Monday, showing most size across northern NSW coasts and wrapping at accessible levels into southern Queensland.

TODAY

Fading E tradewind swell persists around 2ft exposed breaks, grading to 1 to 2ft max inside the points and bays and dwindling later. Mixing with long-range S groundswel­l at 2 to 3ft northern NSW exposed breaks, grading smaller elsewhere. WIND: Early light WNW tending N during the day and freshening to 10 to 20 knots later.

TOMORROW

Mix of smaller-scale E and S swells up to 1 to 2ft exposed breaks, grading smaller along the points and inside the bays. WIND: Early NW to WNW tending W 15 to 25 knots and stronger WSW later.

SATURDAY

Tiny ENE and SSE swells around 1ft exposed QLD breaks, New S swell picks up across northern NSW to 1 to 3ft during the afternoon, otherwise virtually flat. WIND: W 15 to 25 knots.

SUNDAY

S swell steadily builds. Around 2 to 4ft across northern NSW exposed breaks early, building towards 3 to 4ft+ during the day and bigger later. Initially tiny at 1 to 2ft exposed QLD breaks, picking up to 2 to 3ft later. WIND: WSW 15 to 20 knots, tending SSW during the afternoon.

MONDAY

Large S swell builds in. Solid 5 to 8ft across exposed Northern NSW beaches, grading to 3 to 6ft open beaches. Wrapping into southern Queensland’s exposed beaches at 3 to 4ft+ and along the points and open beaches at 1 to 3ft depending on exposure. WIND: Early light WSW to SW 10 to 20 knots inshore, tending S during the morning.
